Early years of a child’s life are the most important for building strong language and social skills. Delay in language or social communication difficulty require professional help.
The Hanen Centre, a world-renowned leader in early childhood language development, has committed the last 35 years to putting parents first when it comes to helping their child build language and social skills. Driven by the firm belief that parents can and should be their child’s most important language teachers, Hanen Centre has developed several research-based programs and resources specifically for parents of children from birth to five years of age to show them how they can make the most of every interaction they share with their child. The following Hanen programs are offered by the center:
- For parents of children with language delays
It Takes Two to Talk® – The Hanen Program® for parents of Children with Language Delays.
This program was specifically designed for parents of children with language delays. In a comfortable, small group setting, parents will learn practical strategies for building their child’s language skills naturally, throughout their day together.
- For parents of children with autism or social communication difficulties
The More Than Words Program was designed specifically for parents of children aged 5 and under on the autistic spectrum or with other social communication difficulties. Addressing the unique needs of these children, the program provides parents with the tools, strategies and support they need to help their children reach their full communication potential. An online program is also available through tele-practice.
- For parents of children with high-functioning autism
A child with high-functioning autism has special strengths and abilities: language is well developed but difficulties in conversations and interactions are observed. Challenges in understanding perspective and adapt language accordingly will also affect social skills.
The TalkAbility Program is designed to help parents develop this skill in daily life activities.
